In Which Stage Of Dog Sleep Do They Dream?
Many pet-parents have observed that their sleeping dog suddenly starts to twitch or starts to growl on beds for pets in Melbourne. Scientists believe that the reasons for such sudden responses are because dogs are dreaming something like running behind a rabbit or enjoying a peaceful walk with their pet-parent.
Why animals dream is a long debated topic around the world, and most scientists believe that dreams are vehicles for processing all of the data that brain takes in during a day. Researchers have studied brain waves of dogs during their sleep and compared them with human brains, and they have found a lot of similarities in both the patterns.
Dogs experience two stages of sleep which are known as Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep and Slow Wave Sleep (SWS). SWS is the dozing off period which is the early stage of sleep. In this stage, mental functions are slowed down but body is still engaged. REM sleep is the deeper stage of sleep in which eye darting movements, body twitches and noises can be observed. Faster brain wave patterns were recorded during REM which indicate that the dog is in a dream state.
